William Richard Hollister, Jr. “Bill”, 66, from Waldorf, Maryland passed away peacefully with his family at his side on February, 18th 2025.  He succumbed to lung cancer after a 16-month courageous battle with the disease. 

Bill was born and raised in Glenn Dale, Maryland on December 27th, 1958 to the late Mildred “Mamaw” Hollister and Bill “Pappy” Hollister, Sr.  He graduated from DuVal High School in Lanham, Maryland with the class of ‘76 and immediately entered the carpenters union upon graduation, following in the footsteps of his Father, Bill Sr. and his grandfather, Ray.  Bill was a master carpenter capable of making most anything out of wood, home remodeling and had a special niche for finish carpentry such as ornate trim work, crown molding and coffered ceilings.  He was the ultimate handy man and proudly customized each one of his grandchildren’s nurseries. He spent the last 20+ years of his career working for Humphrey Rich Construction Group as a superintendent remodeling commercial buildings and hotels. His reputation for consistency, meticulous attention to detail and honesty speaks for itself. Bill was an avid, skilled golfer and carried a 7 handicap up until his final days. Nothing made him smile more on the golf course like a high draw and anything less than a 3-putt. He will always be remembered for his tireless work ethic, even-keel demeanor and deep love for those closest to him. 

Bill was married to his wife and high school sweetheart, Pennie, for 45 years. They have 3 children, Adrienne Hollister, Billye Hollister and Melissa Smith. Bill and Pennie enjoyed riding their Harley Davidson, vacationing in Ocean City, MD. and numerous beaches in Florida. Bill lived a quiet life and adored being “Pappy” to his five grandchildren. He thoroughly enjoyed his work and intentionally worked through being eligible to retire until his health deteriorated. 

He is survived by all three of his aforementioned children and five grandchildren Emma, Bo, Ben, Hunter and Archer his son-in-law, Jason Smith and in-laws Millie and Ted Money. 

Relatives and friends are invited to Bill's Life Celebration on Monday, February 24, 2025 from 11 a.m. until the start of the funeral service at 12 noon at the KALAS FUNERAL HOME & CREMATORY, 6160 Oxon Hill Road, Oxon Hill, MD 20745. Interment to follow at Washington National Cemetery in Suitland, MD.

In lieu of flowers, we ask for donations be sent to the <a href = “https://www.hospicechesapeake.org/giving/donate-now/”>Hospice of Chesapeake </a> in immense gratitude and appreciation for his care.

Interment to follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery in Suitland, MD. 

John Ralph VanDerwerker, 84, passed away on February 16, 2025, in Fort Washington, Maryland.

Born on October 14, 1940, in Summit, New Jersey, John grew up with a love for life that carried through every stage. He grew up in Silver Spring, MD attending Montgomery Blair High School. He continued his education with a degree in history at the University of Maryland, College Park, after which he enlisted in the Naval Reserves. While playing a lot of golf, John was encouraged by a friend to study for his real estate license. With only one third of the book read, he passed and quickly started selling houses. This was such a successful career choice, that he was known as Mr. Wonderworker. He became a broker and opened his own branch of Century 21 in 1979. He was a mentor to many and sold real estate for over 50 years.

A lifelong sports enthusiast, John could always be found watching a game. Whether cheering for the Maryland Terrapins, the Redskins, the Orioles, or watching his grandsons play soccer and baseball, he remained an eternal optimist—both in sports and in life. His unwavering positivity was one of his defining traits; he always found the bright side of any situation.

John cherished time spent with family and friends. He loved relaxing with a cold beer in hand and making memories in Long Beach Island, NJ. His warmth and kindness made him loved by many and liked by all who had the pleasure of meeting him.

John was a devoted and loving husband to Dianna and a proud parent to four daughters: Delani Cashion, Dewi Cashion, Shanna VanDerwerker (Justin), and Ashley Simmons (Sean). He is survived by 2 sisters, Virginia Pace, and Valerie Mudge, 3 nieces, 2 nephews, 4 granddaughters, Tessa, Ciara, Kaia, Erin, and three grandsons, Bodhi, Gavin, and Caleb.

John’s legacy is one of love, optimism, and deep connections with those around them. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him. In lieu of flowers, family requests memorial contributions be sent to the <a href="https://give.michaeljfox.org/give/421686/#!/donation/checkout">Michael J. Fox Parkinson's Foundation</a>.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, April 5, 2025 as an open house starting at noon at the VanDerwerker Residence.

Mr. Donald Francis Worley, 75, passed away from a twelve-year battle with multiple cancers on February 15, 2025, in Annapolis, Maryland. 

Born on May 20, 1949, in Riverdale, Maryland, Don dedicated nearly three decades of his life to government service. He began his distinguished career as an officer with the Executive Protective Service in Washington, D.C., before joining the United States Secret Service during the Nixon administration. Over the years, he served six U.S. Presidents with honor and dignity, holding a special reverence for Ronald Reagan. His work took him across the globe, ensuring the safety of those under his protection. Following his retirement from the Secret Service in 1996, Don continued to lend his expertise as a consultant with the State Department and Square One Armoring. 

Beyond his professional achievements, Don was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather whose love for his family knew no bounds. He cherished time spent with his wife, Hope; his children, Stephen, Raymond, Kelly, and Patrick (Julie) Worley; and his beloved grandchildren, Beca and Cora Compo, and Lucca and Conall Worley. Whether hunting, boating, fishing, or crabbing together—or tackling home improvement projects—Don found joy in sharing these moments with those he loved most. A skilled cook with a passion for grilling and smoking meats to perfection, he often brought family and friends together over delicious meals. Given his vast professional and personal hobbies, Don's technical acumen positioned him as the "go to" for friends and family on just about every subject for those with car trouble, home system issues, and unique life challenges. His wisdom and fatherly guidance is cherished by so many. 

Don was preceded in death by his parents, Irving and Evelyn Worley, and his sisters, Delores Warner and Jean Worley.   

His legacy of dedication—to both country and family—will be fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him. May his memory bring comfort to those who mourn his passing.

Relatives and friends are invited to Bobbie's Life Celebration on Thursday, February 20, 2025 from 12 P.M. to 2 P.M. at the KALAS FUNERAL HOME & CREMATORY, 6160 Oxon Hill Road, Oxon Hill, MD 20745. A graveside service will be held at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date. 

James "Jim/Jimmy" Sypult, 62, of Edgewater, MD, and formerly of Hyattsville and Huntingtown, passed away on Monday, February 10, 2025, at Anne Arundel Medical Center in Annapolis, MD, following a courageous 10-year battle with pulmonary fibrosis.

Born on November 5, 1962, in Washington, DC, to the late Martha Ann Short Sypult Lewis Bliss and Jack Sypult, Jim lived a life defined by hard work, faith, and a deep love for family and friends. A graduate of Northern High School, he dedicated himself to his career, first with EJ Whalen-Plumbing Co. and later with Pepco, where he worked tirelessly for 34 years as a Lead Line Mechanic before retiring. Never one to sit still, Jim continued his passion for the trade as an Electrical Superintendent for Anchor Construction until his passing.

A man of unwavering faith, Jim was a longtime member of Chesapeake Christian Fellowship in Davidsonville, MD, where he found strength and community. He was also a member of the Chesapeake Bay Power Boat Association, embracing his love for the water. Whether out on the boat, golfing with friends, traveling to new places, or spending time at the beach, Jim found joy in life’s simple pleasures. He had a special love for crabs, enjoying countless crab feasts surrounded by family and friends—moments that brought him true happiness.

Jim’s generous spirit was evident in everything he did. A natural problem-solver and "handyman extraordinaire," he was always the first to lend a helping hand. In his earlier years, he made cherished memories as a Cub Scout den leader and relished the adventures of RV life while traveling to dirt bike races with his son. Above all, Jim treasured the time spent with his loved ones, creating lasting memories filled with laughter, love, and togetherness.

Jim’s legacy of kindness, hard work, and devotion to those he loved will live on in the countless lives he touched.

In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his son, Stephen Sadelson. He is survived by his loving wife, Sandy Wing; his children, Trevor Sypult, Tyler (Kara) Wing, Kimberly (Giovanni) Sadelson Figueroa, and Michael (Pamela) Sadelson; his daughter-in-law, Katie Alsop; his siblings, Jack Sypult, Jeanne Sypult, and Jeff Lewis;  his cherished grandchildren, Joseph, Madison, Isabelle, Bryanna, Isla Grace, and Brennan; and a one-month-old great-grandchild, Vienna Rose.

Family and friends are invited to celebrate Jim's life on Friday, February 14, from 11:30 AM until his funeral service begins at 1:00 PM at Chesapeake Christian Fellowship, 377 W. Central Ave., Davidsonville, MD. Interment will follow at Lakemont Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Davidsonville.
