Obituary for Betty Goode
Elizabeth Roberts Goode "Betty", 92, died peacefully at her home in Annapolis on Wednesday, May 24, 2017. Born on November 1, 1924, in Hughesville, MD to the late Heber and V. Naomi Roberts, Betty graduated from Hughesville High School in 1942 as Valedictorian of her class. After high school, Betty worked for the Navy Department as a clerk for two years, commuting from Hughesville daily to D.C, and saving her money so she could attend Strayer Business School. Although she didn't have enough money to graduate, Betty attended Strayer for one year and majored in secretarial studies. In January 1946, Betty met L. Douglas Goode just after he returned home from serving in the Army Air Corps during WWII. They were married on April 19, 1947, and moved to D.C. where Betty worked as a secretary for Hall Johnson. After two years Betty decided to become a full-time housewife. On October 8, 1955, her daughter, Deborah Lynn Goode, was born. Betty and her family lived in Suitland for two years before moving to Silver Spring, MD. In 1989 she moved to Annapolis to be closer to her daughter and grandson. Betty enjoyed spending time with her family, eating out, going to movies and occasionally traveling around the US with her husband, family, and friends. Betty was a devoted daughter, wife, and mother. Her family was her greatest priority; she was a caregiver to her parents in their later years. She is survived by her husband of seventy years, her daughter and her son-in-law, Richard M. Frank; her grandson, Steven C. Carroll; her step-grandchildren, Rebecca Williams and Robert Frank and her great-grandchildren, Abigail, Haley and Samantha Williams. Friends are invited to celebrate Betty's life on Saturday, May 27 from 10:00 AM until her funeral service begins at 11:00 AM at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Rd., Edgewater, MD. Interment will follow at Ft. Lincoln Cemetery in Brentwood, MD.
