Martin “Marty” J. Cronin passed away peacefully on February 14, 2026.  Marty was born in New York in 1938 to the late Delores and Edwin Cronin.  Moving to and growing up in Chevy Chase, Maryland, he graduated from the University of Maryland and ultimately settled in Edgewater.  Marty was an accomplished realtor and a dear friend to all who knew him.  He had a zest for life and was selfless in his support of family and friends.  In addition to his parents, Marty was preceded in death by his son, Martin J. Cronin, Jr., his brother, Ed Cronin.  He is survived by his loving partner of over 41 years, Carol Granahan; his beloved daughter and son-in-law, Kathleen and Brian Newhouse; his two grandsons, Benjamin and Evan Newhouse; Carol’s daughter Marcie Granahan-White (late husband Peter White) and her son Denny Granahan and wife Jennifer; Carol’s grandchildren, Haley, Jada, Abygail and Chloe, as well as his large extended family in Philadelphia, PA. All services for Marty will be private. Memorial contributions may be made to the Annapolis Elks Lodge #622 (online: https://pay.elks622.com/37d1a16c-60ba-45f7-a2c0-1fa).

Our beloved mom, Joan B. Jordan—known as “Joannie,” “Do Do,” and “Grandma Joannie” to all—passed away peacefully on February 12, 2026.  Joannie was born in Oyster Bay, New York, on April 30, 1935, to John D. Verrilli and Victoria Verrilli. She entered the world as a preemie weighing only 1.5 pounds and was brought home by her father, a doctor, who nursed her back to strength. Joannie lived in Oyster Bay until her senior year of high school, when she moved to Arlington, Virginia, and graduated from Washington Lee High School in 1953.

As a young girl, Joannie learned to play the piano at age five and developed a lifelong love of horseback riding. She would often leave school and rush to Schiff’s Stables in Oyster Bay to ride, a passion she carried throughout her life. 

After high school, she worked at the FBI and CIA, focusing on Soviet Espionage. Joannie kept her Top Secret Clearance a secret forever, honoring her oath. After her time at the CIA, she worked at Colonial Group Insurance, where she met Donald Jordan, Sr. Together, they had four children and lived in Forestville, MD. 

Despite the challenges of raising the children primarily on her own, Joannie made sure they experienced a childhood full of adventure—fishing, crabbing, clamming, and memorable trips to Ocean City and Rehoboth Beach, where she rented a U Haul trailer with “student driver” taped to the back. She fixed the kids’ fishing rods and cleaned the fish herself, making every outing special and unforgettable. Joannie was also an avid gardener with a notorious green thumb, especially with her beloved Tropicana roses.

A woman of strong faith and deep commitment to her community, Joannie served as President of the Neighborhood Watch in Forestville, MD; was a member of the Prince George’s County Police Department Citizens Patrol; volunteered at Andrews Air Force Base through the USO/Operation Yellow Ribbon; and opened her home many times to host an Open House for PG County police officers and firefighters on Thanksgiving day. She will be best remembered for telling her loved ones—and writing in her cards—“Love you top of your head to tip of your toes.” She spoke these words in her final hours.

Joannie was blessed with one sister, Vivian Sims of Annapolis, Maryland. She is also survived by her children John Jordan; Michael Jordan Sr. (Sue), and by the mother of his children, Heidi, with grandchildren Valerie, Michael, Matthew, Denny, and great grandchildren Romello, Achilles, and Laiza; Mark Jordan (Michelle) and her grandchildren Autumn, Emma, Mark, Jr., Haidyn, and Gracie; and Donna Reamy (Mark) with grandchildren Jordan, Jacob, and Joseph.

Family and friends are invited to celebrate Joan's life on Friday, March 6, 2026, from 10:30 am until her memorial service begins at 11 am at the Kalas Funeral Home & Crematory, 2973 Solomons Island Rd., Edgewater, MD 21037. Interment private.

The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to Hospice of the Chesapeake for their extraordinary care. A heartfelt thank you to Amy, Stephanie, Shanay, and Jessica. Spending a year with Joannie brought compassion, comfort, and many much needed laughs, which the family will always cherish.

Jean Lorraine Petersen, 97, died on February 12, 2026. Beloved wife of the late Henry Edward Petersen, mother of Jacqueline Swanson (Steven), Thomas Stephen Petersen (Penny), the late Jane Mongelli (the late John Mongelli), Joan Zucconi (Paul), Julie Petrisek (Raymond), Stephen Joseph Petersen (the late Donna Manges) and Vincent Edward Petersen (Vasilike) and loving sister of the late Joanne Clark. A proud Washingtonian, Jean attended St. Cecilia’s School and Trinity College.  Jean is survived by 17 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.  Jean was a past member of St. John Vianney Church in Prince Frederick, Maryland and St. Camillus Catholic Church, Silver Spring, Maryland.  Family and friends are invited to celebrate Jean’s life on Thursday, February 19 at Holy Family Catholic Church, 826 West Central Avenue, Davidsonville, Maryland, with visitation at 10 am followed by Mass at 11 am. Interment immediately following at Fort Lincoln.

Alfredo “Freddie” Cacho Padilla, beloved father, grandfather, husband, brother, uncle, and  friend, passed away at the age of 70 surrounded by family at home on the evening of  February 10, 2026. Freddie was preceded in death by his father Hilario Padilla,   mother, Justina Cacho Padilla, and his brothers, Edgardo Padilla  and Rolando Padilla. 

Freddie is survived by his wife, Agnes Padilla, children: Joann Saclolo (Gabe Saclolo), Sheena Price (Brandon Price), Fiona Romero (Albert Romero), siblings: Wilfredo Padilla, Eduardo Padilla, Thelma Padilla, and grandchildren: Chase Saclolo, Cameron Saclolo, Caleb Saclolo, Mason Price, Tyler Price, Milania Price, Gianna Price, Alina Romero, Apollo Romero, Angelo Romero and one on the way, Aila Romero.

Freddie was born on February 28, 1955  in Santa Barbara, Pangasinan, Philippines to Hilario Padilla and Justina Cacho. His father died at the young age of 9, but his oldest brother and fearless mother ensured the family continued on to have a prosperous future. Freddie received many awards and honors throughout school, being known as an academic scholar. He went on to graduate from Manuel L. Quezon University with a degree in Political Science and completed two years of preparatory law to fulfill his dream of becoming a lawyer. As fate would have it, he met the love of his life while attending university. In 1977, he emigrated from the Philippines to the United States by way of his oldest brother’s enlistment in the U.S. Coast Guard. He then returned to the Philippines to marry his wife on January 28, 1980 and brought her back to the U.S. to live out the “American Dream.” During his career, Freddie worked at the U.S. Courthouse in Washington D.C. for 8 years, and later retired from the U.S. Postal Service after 26 years. His ambition to serve did not end there. Post retirement, he held various leadership positions across different organizations, where he raised thousands in funding for the schools in Pangasinan, Philippines and food donations for the poor.

His greatest pride and joy were his children and grandchildren, from whom he drew his strength and for whom he strived to be an example. His unwavering determination, fight and grit were an inspiration to all, especially during his long and courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. He will be fondly remembered for his charming sense of humor, love of singing and playing musical instruments, his joy of traveling back to the Philippines, and the countless hours spent in the garage or around the table with his siblings and friends, sharing stories and eating “pulutan.” Towards the end of his life, he drew close to God and his belief in Jesus’ miraculous healing was unparalleled. Though his physical presence is no longer with us, his powerful spirit and loving heart will be deeply missed and forever remembered. 

Relatives and friends are invited to gather for Alfredo's Life Celebration on Friday, February 27, 2026 from 2 P.M. until 8:30 P.M. at the KALAS FUNERAL HOME & CREMATORY, 6160 Oxon Hill Road, Oxon Hill MD 20745. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, February 28, 2026 at 10 A.M. at St Mary's Catholic Church of Piscataway, 13401 Piscataway Road, Clinton MD 20735. Interment to be held immediately following the service at 11 A.M. at St Mary's Catholic Church of Piscataway Cemetery, 13401 Piscataway Road, Clinton MD 20735.

Mass of the Resurrection will be offered on Friday, February 20 at 9 am at St. John Neumann Catholic Church, 620 N. Bestgate Rd., Annapolis, MD. Condolences may be made by using the Memories link on this page.

Jimmy L. Stewart, 70, a seventeen-year resident of Edgewater, MD and previously of Dunkirk, MD died on Tuesday, February 3, at his home. Born on December 29, 1955 in San Diego, CA to the late Glendale and Bernice Stewart, Jimmy was formerly a policeman with the Prince George’s County Police Department and most recently retired from the U.S. Department of Agriculture where he worked in the computer web systems department. In his spare time, he enjoyed comic books, drawing and martial arts. In addition to his parents, Jimmy was preceded in death by his sister, Ruth Karimi. He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Kathleen DePalma Stewart and his son, Michael E. Stewart. Friends are invited to celebrate Jimmy’s life at the Kalas Funeral Home & Crematory, 2973 Solomons Island Rd., Edgewater, MD on Monday, February 9 from 3 pm until his memorial service begins at 5 pm.
