O

n August 25, 2026, Gregory J. Walling of Davidsonville, Maryland, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family and friends. Known fondly to many as “The Gov’ner”, Gregory was born in Washington D.C. to William French Walling and Doris Donohoe. He graduated high school from the Milton Hershey School and then went to the University of Maryland, Robert H. Smith School of Business. He served as an assistant to the dean, Rudy Lamone and earned a Bachelor of Science focused on Human Resource Management and a Master of Business Administration. From an early age, Gregory was a natural entrepreneur. He led several businesses, most notably a company that conducted executive searches in the health care, technology, and financial services fields for hospitals, HMOs, universities, and Fortune 500 corporations. Gregory was preceded in death by his parents as well as brothers, Joe and George Walling and Willie Smith. Gregory is survived by his wife of 44 years, Colleen Joyce Walling, his sisters, Martha Flory, Diane (Jeff) Clum, and Darlene Smith and his beloved eleven nieces and nephews. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Wednesday, September 2, at 10:30am, at Holy Family Catholic Church,, 826 W. Central Avenue, Davidsonville. A reception will follow. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made in honor of Gregory J. Walling to a scholarship at the Robert H. Smith School of Business within the University of Maryland Online Here .
