Roberta O'Connell - Obituary

oberta Lee O'Connell "Mom-Mom", 72, a forty-four year resident of Edgewater died on Monday, July 20 at her residence after a seven-month battle with lung cancer. Born on October 10, 1942 in Alexandria, VA to the late William Albert and Dorothy Dair Drumheller, Roberta was a stay-at-home mom who also worked at Giant Food and at a book bindery. She was proud to finally receive her driver's license at the age of 29. Roberta loved to cook for everyone that came to her house and she also loved reading, gardening and spending time with her grandchildren. She always told you what she thought and what her feelings were. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Michael Joseph O'Connell who died on August 2, 2001; they were married on February 16, 1971, and by her siblings, William A. and Robert L. Drumheller and Edith M. Comer. She is survived by her children, William E. Brooks, Jr. of Edgewater, Joseph M. O'Connell, Sr. of Shady Side, Robert W. O'Connell, Sr. of Lincoln, DE and Lori L. Southwick of Harwood; her siblings, Donald R. Drumheller of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, Betty L. Williams of Lake Ozark, MO, Joyce A. Phipps of Bowie, Evelyn L. Wagner of Florence, SC and Debra A. Stubbs of Georgetown, DE. She is also survived by 7 grandsons, 5 granddaughters and a great-granddaughter. A memorial service will be held at 11 am on Saturday, July 25 at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Rd., Edgewater, MD. Inurnment will be at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
