Abelardo T. Samoy - Obituary

belardo Tulao Samoy passed away on February 22, 2023 at the age of 90 with his children by his side. “Abe”, a long time resident of Fort Washington, was born in the City of Cavite in the Philippines on October 23,1932 to Macario and Barbara, the 5th of 10 children. He enlisted in the US Navy where he served for 20 years as a chef. Abe was also a member of the base basketball team. He met and then married Teresita Solar in Chicago in 1966. Abe completed two more careers as a chef aboard the Presidential Yacht - USS Sequoia and then at the Treasury Department. After retiring from all three careers, Abe enjoyed traveling on many medical missions with his wife Tessie and catering for many events. Pop always loved to be the Chef! He was an avid basketball and football fan. He was always a fan of the Redskins. Abe is the beloved father to Ab, Dennis and Stephen and Grandfather to Amanda, Christian, Tyler, Brandon, Justin, Jessica, Michael, Stephanie, Ariana, Devan and Donovan. He is survived by his wife Tessie, his sons Ab Dennis and Stef, his sister Purita, ten grandchildren and a large community of extended family and friends. Relatives and friends are invited to Abelardo's Life Celebration on Thursday, March 9, 2023, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the KALAS FUNERAL HOME & CREMATORY, 6160 Oxon Hill Road, Oxon Hill, MD 20745. Mass of Christian Burial offered on Friday, March 10, 2023 at 10 a.m. at St. Columba Catholic Church, 7800 Livingston Rd., Oxon Hill, MD. Interment with Military Honors will be held at Arlington National Cemetery on Monday, May 22, 2023 at 9 a.m. Please meet at the Administration Building at 8:15 a.m. if attending.
