Alain Guy Champaloux - Obituary

D

r. Alain Guy Champaloux passed away at home with his family after a long battle with brain cancer. He was born on February 4, 1954, in Marseille, France, the youngest of three brothers and the son of Leon and Reine Champaloux. He obtained his medical degree from The Université Aix-Marseille II in 1982, then moved to the United States where he completed his residency at the University of North Dakota in 1987. He was a beloved family physician in Upper Marlboro, MD, where he practiced for over 25 years, and served as the Chief of Family Physicians for MedStar Southern Maryland Hospital. Both personally and professionally, he dedicated his life to kindness and service to others and would always go the extra mile to provide the best in medical care to his patients, even making house calls to home-bound patients. To recognize Alain’s immeasurable service to the community, he was awarded official proclamations from the Governor of the State of Maryland, Maryland State Senate, and House of Delegates, as well as a Town Proclamation from the city of Upper Marlboro. Alain’s professional career was complemented by a very fulfilling personal life. He was a devoted parishioner of St. Mary's Catholic Church of Piscataway in Clinton, MD, a member of the Association of Family Physicians and the American Board of Family Medicine, and also volunteered as a Mentor for Georgetown MedStar University Hospital medical students. He was an avid amateur photographer, loved researching family genealogy, traveling, running half-marathons, playing tennis, and being a soccer coach to his sons. Alain was a profoundly loved husband and father and sought to provide in every way possible for his family. He is survived by his wife, Marie Champaloux, of 42 years; sons, Paul (Joy), Marc (Eve), and Eric (Chaketa) Champaloux; grandchildren, Daphne and Vincent Champaloux; and brothers, Jean-Pierre (Maria) and Gerard (Barbara) Champaloux and their children and grandchildren. Funeral services for family and friends will be held on Saturday, November 13, 2021, at St. Mary's Catholic Church of Piscataway (13401 Piscataway Rd, Clinton, MD 20735). Masks will be required in the church. Public viewing will be held at 10 am, followed by a funeral mass at 11 am, and Alain will be laid to rest at St. Mary's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society (https://www.cancer.org/involved/donate.html).
