lan Robertson Ballman, Jr., 61, a resident of Annapolis and previously of Brooklyn Park, MD, passed away on Thursday, April 7, 2016 at the Hospice of the Chesapeake Inpatient Care Center in Pasadena, with his wife by his side.
Alan was born on January 9, 1955 in Baltimore, MD to the late Alan R. and Hazel G. Ballman, Sr. He was a 1973 graduate of Brooklyn Park High School and earned a bachelor’s degree in Accounting and Finance from the University of Baltimore in 1978. In 2010, he also earned a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science and Math from the University of Maryland, College Park. Alan started his career at Westinghouse Electric Corporation where he worked as a program administrator, then transferred to Amecom Litton Systems as a senior estimator before taking a position as a financial analyst at DRS Technologies, Inc. He also worked at several companies as a consultant.
Alan had many interests including cross-word puzzles, computers, history and military engineering, wood crafts and metal working. He enjoyed crabbing and fishing, sailing, and cooking. He was also a member of Galesville United Methodist Church.
Alan is survived by his loving wife of 25 years, Kathleen R. Ballman; one brother, Gerald Ballman and his wife Coleen; and one sister, Sharon Miles and her husband, Milton and a niece, Megan Miles, several cousins and close friends.
Friends may call on Sunday, April 10, from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 6 to 8 p.m. at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Rd., Edgewater, MD where Alan’s memorial service will be held on Monday, April 11 at 10am. Interment will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Hicksville, Ohio.
