A

lan Preston Sharman Jr of Hughesville, Maryland passed away at age 75 on May 22, 2018 at Georgetown University Hospital from acute respiratory failure after a courageous four-week battle. Born on October 1, 1942 in Baltimore Maryland, he was the son of the late Alan Sharman, Sr. and Martha Sharman. Alan honorably served 20 years in the Navy, and then went on to have a remarkable career as an engineer at the Naval Research Lab. For many years he managed Blossom Point, a satellite surveillance and command and control site for complex space systems for the Navy and other US government sponsors. In his retirement years, Alan became an avid nature photographer and adventurer. Throughout his life, he was a voracious reader and lover of the great outdoors. He enjoyed hiking, golfing, fishing, and watching birds. He will be remembered as a kind, humble, curious gentleman with a quick wit and wonderful sense of humor. Alan is survived by his wife Joan Sharman, his daughters Kimberly Evans (Brian) and Ronda Sharman, his grandson Nathan Evans, and many close nieces, nephews and sister-in-laws. He was proceeded in death by his beloved twin brother Joseph Sharman. Alan was a loving husband, father, and grandfather as well as a mentor and father-figure to many family members and friends. We invite you to honor and celebrate the life of Alan Sharman, his Celebration of Life will be Sunday June 24th from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Lake Presidential Golf Club in Upper Marlboro, MD, 3151 Presidential Golf Dr., Upper Marlboro, MD 20774 Guests are encouraged to arrive between 1pm and 1:30 p.m. At 1: 30 p.m., family and friends will speak about Alan and share favorite memories. Following the speakers around 2:30 p.m., please relax and mingle with food and drinks and celebrate Alan with fellow family and friends.
