Albert Joseph Martin - Obituary

n Monday, August 20, 2018; the beloved husband of Kay L. Martin; father of Stephen and Keith Martin and Sharon Beck; grandfather of Stephen and Kody Martin and Michael Beck; son of the late Reinhardt and Dorothy Bruhn Martin; brother of the late Dorothy Ann Martin. He is also survived by his great-grandchildren. A.J. began his naval career in 1957 at what was then Cape Canaveral. He transferred to the Naval Research Laboratory in 1960, completed his active duty and transferred into the Naval Reserve, where he served for 26 years, retiring with the rank of Commander. He stayed at the Naval Research Lab for his entire civilian career, retiring as Deputy Branch Head of the Space Science Division. He loved his work, finding it both challenging and fulfilling. A.J. loved his family, his church, and most of all, his music. He especially enjoyed singing and his long association with the Maryland Choral Society gave him great joy. Relatives and friends are invited to A.J.'s Life Celebration on Saturday, October 6, 2018 from 2 p.m.until time of the memorial service at 3 p.m. at the GEORGE P. KALAS FUNERAL HOME, P.A., 6160 Oxon Hill Rd., Oxon Hill, MD. Interment private at a later date.
