A

lbert Frank Sole “Al”, 92, a 7-year resident of Leisure World in Silver Spring and previously of Berkshire, Md., died Saturday, October 9, at Mandrin Chesapeake Hospice House. Al was born April 30, 1918 in West Virginia and served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He worked for Bankers Life and Casualty as an insurance salesman for 40 years. He enjoyed bowling, cooking and sports; he was an avid Yankees fan. Al was predeceased by five brothers, Tony, Dominic, Louie, Amelio and Joseph Sole and three sisters, Theresa and Margaret Sole and Mary Macolino. He is survived by his wife, Colleen, whom he married in 1946; two daughters, Cheryl (John) Garvey of Arlington, Va. and Pamela (Karst) Besteman of Crownsville; one brother, Samuel Sole of New Jersey; four grandchildren, William Albert Devine of Crownsville, Shannon (Andrew) Greb of Pasadena, and Jack and Ryan Elizabeth Garvey both of Arlington; and four great-grandchildren, Malea, Tyler, Caleb and Cooper. Friends are invited to Al’s Life Celebration on Wednesday, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Road, Edgewater, MD 21037 where a funeral service will be held on Thursday at 11am. Interment Maryland Veterans Cemetery in Crownsville. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 (see online link in column at the left side of this page) or a charity of your choice.
