Alberta Louise Hitzel - Obituary

lberta Louise Hitzel (Northedge), age 93, of Shady Side, MD, passed away peacefully on August 22, 2026. Born January 23, 1933, in Washington, DC, to the late Albert L. and Ruth E. Northedge, Alberta lived a full life. She loved the frequent conversations she had with her late sister, Goldie. She had an affection for peonies with their fresh, sweet, rosy fragrance and loved the color, purple. Alberta had a strong interest in traditional history and enjoyed movies of all sorts. Her generous spirit touched countless lives, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and quiet strength. Alberta was preceded in death by her husband, John L. Hitzel, who passed away in 2017; her grandson, Kevin Beall; and her siblings, Goldie Talbert, Clarence Northedge, and Jack Northedge. She is survived by five children, Bonnie Gibbs, Joseph (Penny) Petrillo, Albert (Carol) Petrillo, Toni (Donald) Browning, and Vickey Petrillo; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Robert (Gay) Northedge and David (Sandy) Northedge. Family and friends are invited to celebrate Alberta’s life with her family on Sunday, September 20, 2026, at 1:00 pm at 730 Lingan Lane, Owings, MD 20736.
