fter a lengthy illness, Alexander "Al" McKay, 72, of Annapolis and previously of Oxon Hill, died of leukemia and emphysema Oct. 19 at the home of his sister, Charmaine E. Reesch, where he lived for the past 16 years.
Born Feb. 10, 1935, in New York City, Mr. McKay moved to the Washington, D.C., area while a child. In 1994 he moved to Annapolis.
He was a painting contractor, known for his quality home painting style. He enjoyed his guitar, television shows and driving his truck. He had a great devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of God and the Holy Rosary, his family said.
His longtime friend, Vivian Dewar, died in 2005. He was the son of the late Bernice and Alexander McKay Sr.
In addition to his sister, he is survived by another sister, Rose Marie McCeney of Fredericksburg, Va.; 12 nieces and nephews; and 17 grand-nieces and grand-nephews.
A funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. John Neumann Catholic Church, 620 N. Bestgate Road. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Chesapeake, 445 Defense Highway, Annapolis, MD 21401. The family kindly requests that no flowers be sent.
