Alfred T. Kamajian - Obituary

K

amajian Kamajinator Many people knew Alfred Thomas Kamajian by the names Kamajian or Kamajian Kamajinator. He was the only child of COL Alfred Movses Kamajian and Helen Kendigian Kamajian. He was born in England on August 12, 1957. Kamajian considered age a mere number, and he lived always with a youthful intensity. He was baptized at Saint Gregory the Illuminator Armenian Apostolic Church in Philadelphia and remained within the Armenian Church. As a child whose father served in the US Air Force, he lived in places as different as London, Tokyo, Falls Church, and Omaha. In addition to his parents, Alfred’s beloved dog Tristan predeceased him. Survivors include four cousins. Kamajian was a professional drummer and artist. The drummers Gene Krupa and Keith Moon provided inspiration for him. He played original rhythms to match the grooves of whomever he accompanied. Kamajian’s art graced magazines as diverse as Scientific American and Omni. He did not limit his work to scientific illustration. He was proud of his cover art for Batman comic books. He also painted a number of series that he described as Art for the Machine Age. He graduated from the Rhode Island School of Design. People remarked on the intensity of his blue eyes and his charming presence. Conversations ranged from music and art to spirituality and politics, science and relationships. His art interpreted Gotham City, and he maintained an eclectic collection of deco art and other objects. Kamajian lived freely and loved all with an intense openness. May he rest in Love eternal. The funeral service will take place at 11 o’clock on Friday, July 13 at Soorp Khatch Armenian Apostolic Church, 4906 Flint Drive, Bethesda, MD with burial on Saturday, July 14 at 11 AM at the Lawnview Cemetery, 500 Huntingdon Pike, Rockledge, Pennsylvania.
