A

lton “Pops” C. Graybill, 74, a 19-year resident of West River, MD and previously Roger's Heights in Hyattsville, MD died on October 16, 2009 of a sudden heart attack at Anne Arundel Medical Center in Annapolis, MD. Born February 12, 1935 in Thompsontown, PA to the late Holmes C. Graybill and Margaret Graybill Stimeling, he graduated from Greenwood High School in Millerstown, PA in 1953 and attended the United States Army Radiology School from 1953 to 1956. Mr. Graybill served in the United States Army from 1956 to 1959, obtaining the rank of SP5. He was employed from 1963 to 2002 as a Radiology Technician at the V.A. Hospital in Washington, D.C. and was also a real estate agent from 1968 to 2007. He was director of the CYO league for St. Bernard's Church in the 1980's and was also a coach in the CYO league. Alton was a member of Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church in West River, MD and he enjoyed gardening, repairing equipment, puzzles, hunting, fishing and playing with his grandchildren. He was the beloved husband of Pat Graybill, whom he married in 1964; father of Michael Graybill of Edgewater, MD, Jeffrey Graybill of Tracy's Landing, MD and Lynnette Baker of Dunkirk, MD; brother of Ralph Stimeling of Camp Hill, PA, Fred Stimeling of Richfield, PA, Ruth Leister of McAlisterville, PA and the late Florane Stake, who died in 2002. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Ray, Bridget, Rachel, Alec and Will. Friends are invited to Alton's Life Celebration at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Road, Edgewater, MD on Tuesday, October 20, 2009 from 2 to 4pm and 7 to 9pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Wednesday, October 21 at 10:30am at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church, 101 Owensville Rd West River, MD 20778. Interment Southern Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Little Sister's of the Poor, Jeanne Jugan Residence, 4200 Harewood Road, N.E., Washington, D.C. 20017 or Hospice of the Chesapeake, 445 Defense Highway, Annapolis, MD 21401.
