A

lvin Robert Witcher, age 84, a resident of Maryland since 1952 and of Davidsonville since 1973, died on Sunday, October 17 at Somerford Place, after a six and a half year battle with Alzheimer’s disease. Born on June 18, 1926 in Sandusky, OH, Alvin served in the U.S. Coast Guard in the Pacific theater during W.W. II. After serving in the war he graduated from the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy in 1946 and from Case Institute of Technology in 1952. For 31 years, Alvin worked as a naval engineer, specializing in designing propulsion systems, with the U.S. Navy Defense Department. He was a member of NAVSEA. Alvin was predeceased by his wife, Mary Witcher, who died in 1984. He is survived by a daughter, Alison Rolen of Harwood, MD; a son, Kevin Witcher of Federalsburg, MD; a sister, Jeanette Volk of Bellevue, OH; three grandsons, Austin, Matthew and Luke Rolen all of Harwood, MD; two granddaughters, Kimberly Rolen of Harwood, MD and Mary Witcher of Cheswold, DE. A graveside service will be held on Monday, December 20 at 1:00pm at the Arlington National Cemetery Columbarium.
