argaret Alyce Bean Stifter, 93, a resident of Annapolis, MD for thirty-four years and previously of Rockville, MD, died of natural causes on Friday, February 17 at her home. Born on February 18, 1929 in Waldorf, MD to the late Carlton and Margaret Bean, Alyce graduated from the Maryland School for the Deaf in Frederick, MD and from Gallaudet University in Washington, DC. She worked for many years as a bookkeeper with the National Association of the Deaf and was an active member of the Maryland Association of the Deaf. Alyce was a fan of all area sports teams, especially the University of Maryland men’s basketball team. She also enjoyed reading, crafting and spending time with her family. She is remembered for her friendliness, warm dimpled smile and sense of humor. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, William J. Stifter. Alyce is survived by her children, Cynthia Stifter of Portsmouth, NH, Amanda Stifter of Arnold, MD, Terence (Cheryl) Stifter of Rockville, MD, Sheila (Tom) Kling of Annapolis, MD, Margaret Stifter of North Beach, MD and Rosemary (Ken Hadley) Stifter of Annapolis, MD; her sister, Anna Norris of Suitland, MD and her grandchildren, Terence Stifter, Jr., Jack Kling, Jennifer Stifter and Benjamin and Samuel Hadley. Friends are invited to celebrate Alyce’s life on Sunday, February 26 from 4 to 7 pm at the Kalas Funeral Home & Crematory, 2973 Solomons Island Rd., Edgewater, MD. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Monday, February 27 at 9:00 am at St. John Neumann Catholic Church, 620 N. Bestgate Rd., Annapolis, MD. The Mass may be viewed online by clicking HERE.
