ndrew Lee “Andy†Carmen, 59, of Friendship, died of cancer Nov. 4 in his home.
Mr. Carmen was born in 1949, in Washington, D.C. He grew up in Cheverly and graduated from Bladensburg High School.
He worked for Washington Gas Company for 25 years until his retirement. A car racing enthusiast, he enjoyed working on and racing cars, and pro stock racing. He also enjoyed music, travel, photography, history, and nature.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Joan Kay LaMond.
Survivors include his life partner, Mary Kathleen Smith; her children, Christopher Smith and Kelley Feranec; her grandsons, Patrick and Iain Feranec; two nephews, Donald Everett and Michael James LaMond, Sr.; one niece, Linda Lee LaMond; two grandnieces, Dawn Leigh Venus and Kelsey Rae LaMond; three grandnephews, Michael James, Jr., Daniel Lee, and Kyle Rhett LaMond; and one great-grandniece.
A celebration of his life will be held Friday, Nov. 7 from 6 to 9 p.m. at George P. Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Road in Edgewater; funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
Interment will be in Lakemont Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
