ngelyn Virginia Weems Parks, a resident of Edgewater for more than fifty years and previously of Shady Side, died at Anne Arundel Medical Center on July 31, 2013, after a three-year battle with Hodgkins lymphoma. Born on October 8, 1927, in Shady Side to the late Fernando Wilson and Mamie Lena Weems, Angelyn attended Shady Side Elementary School, Southern High School, Towson State University, the Washington School for Secretaries and Anne Arundel Community College. When Angleyn was seventeen years old, she and six other female students were chosen to teach elementary-age children during the World War II war effort. She worked for the state of Maryland in the Hall of Records, Department for Higher Education, Department of Human Resources and the Department of Fiscal Services before retiring after twenty-nine years of service. In 2000 she published a book, The History of Ida Hartge and Wilson Weems of Shady Side, Maryland. In 2009 she, being a member of the Peggy Stewart Tea Party Chapter of the DAR, created and placed a grave marking of Revolutionary War patriot, David Weems. Angleyn was a member of the Church of Christ Scientist, Calvary United Methodist Church, the Historical Society of Anne Arundel County, the Historical Society of Maryland, the Shady Side Rural Heritage Society and the Daughters of the American Revolution. She enjoyed history, genealogy, photography, needle point and crocheting. Her family was her passion; she was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother, who was always interested in the needs of others, always giving and always caring. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of sixty years, S. Neligh Parks, who died in 2008; a daughter, Terri Dale Parks and a grandson, Ryan James Wiseley. She is survived by three daughters; Cheryl Andrews of Leonardtown, LouAnn Owens of Ridgely and Connie Parks of Annapolis; two brothers; Ray Weems of Tracys Landing and Richard Weems of Charlotte Hall; two sisters; Martha Sawyer of Alexandria, VA, and Nancy Carpenter of Concord, GA; eight grandchildren; Robert Choicer, Jay Miller, Jeb Wiseley, Logan and Gwendolyn Parks-Eskew, Tami and Christy Apple and Steffanie Finch, and five great-grandchildren. A Celebration of Life gathering will be held from 1:00 to 4:00pm on Saturday, September 14th, at The Galesville Hall in Galesville, MD. Angelyn will be placed to rest in the Weems family plot, with her husband, at the Quaker Burial Ground in Galesville, MD. Memorial contributions may be made to G.H.
