A

nn Swann Lown “Granny”or “Polly”, a 12-year resident of Edgewater, and previously of Annapolis, Upper Marlboro, MD and Washington, D.C. passed away on November 15, 2024, in Annapolis, MD. She was born on December 5, 1926 on her family’s farm in Issue, Maryland to the late Thomas D. and Annie L. Swann. She attended Strayer Secretarial College, now Strayer University. Ann worked as a secretary at the U.S. House of Representatives for Congressmen James Hanley and William Bates, and for the National Retail Federation and Citibank of the National Capital Region. Ann was a parishioner at St. Marys / St. John Neumann in Annapolis, and a former parishioner at Holy Family in Mitchellville, MD, St. Francis Xavier in Washington, DC and Holy Ghost in Issue, MD. She adored her children, grandchildren, and her pets; Trouble, Whiskey, Smokey and Angus. She enjoyed attending church dinners, mums in the fall, water battles on the farm and John Grisham books. Ann is survived by her three daughters; Susan Lown of Arnold, MD, Linda Stark and her husband Gary and Mary Griffies of Edgewater. She is also survived by her five grandchildren, Marc Hughes, Douglas Griffies, Jessica Stark Burris, Margaret Lillian Stark, Rebecca Hughes Small and her 6 great-grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Saturday, November 23, 2024, at 9 am at St. John Neumann Catholic Church, 620 N. Bestgate Road, Annapolis, MD 21401. The interment will be private. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions in Ann’s memory can be made to either, the, Wounded Warrior Project , P.O. Box 758516, Topeka, Kansas 66675-8516, or to the Toys for Tots at Marine Toys for Tots Foundation, Gift Processing Administrator, 18251 Quantico Gateway Drive Triangle, VA 22172. or to Disabled American Veterans A complete obituary will be available soon.
