Ann Shoch - Obituary

A

nn Shoch, age 84, of Ft Washington, MD, died peacefully Wed, December 9, 2024 after a long battle with dementia. She is survived by her three daughters, Dorene Albury of Ft Washington, MD, Adrienne Shoch of Asheville, NC and Sharon Shoch of Woodbridge, VA, along with five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Ann was born in Concord Massachusetts to John and Patricia Nordberg. Ann loved life. Ann and Roger her husband of 60 years, who preceded her in death, enjoyed traveling across the country in their motor home. They drove to Mexico, Canada, and all the continental states including Alaska. Their travels took them across Europe where they explored many countries. Ann’s many accomplishments included starting the Fort Washington Pool Association and later the Fort Washington Swim Team, both of which are still going strong to this day. She ran the social events at the pool, which were instrumental in establishing a strong community, and made many lifelong friends. In 1982, she ran for County Executive for Prince George’s County. She was very involved in the Republican Party and served as a voting judge for years. She also served as Commissioner on the Maryland Nat’l Park & Planning Commission. She worked tirelessly with Abe Polin on the committee to build the original Capital Center in Largo, home of the Washington Capitals Hockey Team and, The Wizards (originally called the Bullets). She was very proud to be an original season ticket holder along with her husband. She felt strongly that medical care should be available to the Fort Washington area and she was instrumental in establishing the Fort Washington Ambulatory Care Center; know today as the Adventist HealthCare Fort Washington Medical Center. After the center opened, she was the President of The Board of Directors from 1978 – 1983. Ann was also the Church organist for St. Mary’s Catholic Church of Piscataway, MD, and later at Most Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Upper Marlboro, MD. She was also the choir director during her tenure. Ann was most proud of her family, and her legacy of four generations consisting of her 3 daughters, 5 grandchildren, and 7 great-grandchildren. The family will miss her positive attitude on life, and wonderful laughter. A service will be held on Wednesday, January 29, 2025 at 11am at St Mary’s of Piscataway Chapel, 13405 Piscataway Rd, Clinton MD. A repast will follow at the Providence-Fort Washington United Methodist Church, 10610 Old Fort Rd, Ft Washington MD. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that a donation be made in her memory to Hospice of the Chesapeake Foundation.
