Anna Muir - Obituary

nna Belle Detamore Lehew Muir, 85, formerly of Dayton, VA and a resident of Tracy’s Landing, Maryland since 1977, passed away on November 27th, Thanksgiving Day, 2014 following an extended illness. Anna Belle was born and raised in Dayton, Virginia , one of eleven children born to Robert and Elsie Detamore who preceded her in death. She graduated from Dayton High School, where she was a member of the girls’ basketball team. Retired from Travelers’ Insurance in Annandale, Virginia in 1983, she was an accomplished cook and gardener. She loved cooking for her family and friends when she wasn’t outside nurturing her beautiful flowers and plants. She was also a lifelong avid Redskins’ fan. She is survived by her husband of forty years, Douglas F. Muir, Jr.; two sons, C.W. (Cheri) Lehew and Jon J. Lehew, of Punta Gorda, FL; one grandson, Sean (Meagan) Lehew; and two great-grandsons, Sean Lehew Jr. and Caden Johnson, also of Punta Gorda; surviving stepchildren Eileen (Mike) Owens, Douglas F. Muir III, Michael (Barbara) Muir, John (Marie) Muir, Susan Kennedy, Anna (K.C.) Knapp; sixteen surviving step-grandchildren and nine surviving step-great-grandchildren. Anna Belle is also survived by two of her siblings, Betty Jo (Jim) Christeller of Richmond, VA and Wilbur Lee (Nancy) Detamore of Staunton, VA; she was aunt and great-aunt to forty. Anna Belle was preceded in death by five brothers, Robert Eugene, Floyd Wilton, Roscoe James, Homer Ervin, and Richard Harry Detamore; two sisters, Marietta Virginia Detamore Quarforth, Dorothy Lee Detamore, and an unnamed stillborn infant. She loved and was loved by her neighbors in Ark Haven, Tracy’s Landing, who were family to her, and who will miss her presence. A service celebrating her life will be held at Valley Friends (the former Dayton Presbyterian Church), 363 High Street, Dayton, VA on Tuesday, December 9th, 2014 at 10:00 a.m., with Pastor Keith Powers officiating. Burial will immediately follow at The Dayton Cemetery.
