nna Lutzenberger Nicholson, or Omi as she was affectionately known by many friends and family, came to the United States from post- war Germany in 1956. Anna spent her early years in the Bavarian countryside of war torn Germany. She and her 7 brothers and sisters went hungry due to strict rationing by the Nazis. She often mentioned the irony of almost starving to death on a farm. Because of this , anyone who was ever welcomed into her home was lavishly plied with food and drink. She loved to entertain and she loved cooking and feeding people. She also loved animals , especially dogs and cats , and would frequently take her grandchildren and dog to Oxon Hill Farm to walk, chase the chickens ,and milk the cows. Anna loved to travel and made sure her children and grandchildren visited Germany. She loved to swim, and did so up until the end of her life. Many neighborhood kids credit her with teaching them to swim. She was a parishioner at St Columba Church in Oxon Hill MD.
Anna worked for Giant Food as a cashier from The 1970’s until her retirement in 2003.
Anna is survived by her daughter, 4 grandchildren, one great grandchild and 4 siblings. She also had many, many beloved brothers and sisters in law, aunts, nieces and nephews and a host of “adopted” family. She also leaves behind her beloved dog and cats.
