Anna Stein - Obituary

A

nna Stein, 62, a 12-year resident of Davidsonville and previously of Sterling, VA, died at her home on July 11 from heart failure resulting from myotonic muscular dystrophy. She was born on August 8, 1948 in Minsk, Belarus (formerly part of the USSR) to the late Yakov and Riva Zilberg. Anna was educated in the Soviet Union where she received a Master of Science in Applied Economics, a Master of Science in Applied Mathematics and ultimately a PhD in Cybernetics. She immigrated to the United States and received her citizenship on July 3, 1986. For many years, she was employed in the research and development of advanced computer/artificial intelligence systems. In addition to her parents, Anna is predeceased by two brothers, Yefim and Isaak, and a sister, Bella, who perished in the holocaust. She is survived by her husband of 22 years, Bruce Stein; brother, Dimitry Zilberg and his wife, Lisa, of Minsk, Belarus; and many nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews. A memorial service will be held on Friday, July 15, at 11:30a.m. at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Road, Edgewater, MD. Inurnment in Minsk at a later date.
