Anne Hannan - Obituary

nne Mercak Hannan, “Grannie Annie”, age 88, a 54-year resident of Forestville and previously of Washington, DC, died July 3 at her home. Born on April 20, 1926 in East Douglas, MA to the late Frank and Mary Mercak, Anne graduated from Catholic University in 1947 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing. She worked at Providence Hospital in Washington, DC and Malcolm Grow Medical Center at Andrews Air Force Base. She also worked as a private duty nurse and, from 1965 to 1994, in the OB/GYN office of Dr. and Mrs. John Gleeson. Anne was a member of Mount Calvary Catholic Church. She enjoyed sewing, knitting, reading, cataloging photos and researching family trees. She also enjoyed caring for people and animals, often bringing both into her home and family. Anne was preceded in death by her husband, William John Hannan who died in 2010. She is survived by her son, Walter F. Hannan of Tracys Landing; daughter, Peggy Gunde and son-in- law, Joseph Gunde of Davidsonville; grandson, Gary J. Gunde of Davidsonville and brother-in-law, Bernard F. Hannan of Springfield, VA. She is also survived by her honorary daughters, Patricia Poole, Debbie Watson and Kara Penn; honorary grandchildren, Rachael Faulkner, Helen Carlson, Lauren and Jack Poole and Kailyn and Micheaux Penn; and honorary great-grandchildren, Dorothy Faulkner and Mia and Mya Carlson. Friends may call from 11:30 a.m. until a Mass of Christian Burial is offered at 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday, July 9 at Mt. Calvary Catholic Church, 6700 Marlboro Pike, Forestville, MD. Interment will be held at Maryland Veterans Cemetery in Cheltenham. Contributions may be made to the Knights of Columbus, P.O.
