Anne Reifsneider - Obituary

O

n Thursday, November 13, 2014, Anne K. Reifsneider died at The Halquist Memorial Inpatient Center in Arlington, VA. Far greater a person than this brief column could ever illustrate, Anne was born September 4, 1922 in Wilmington, NC, to the late John Stille Reifsneider and Catherine Ringgold Bright. So very much of her life was about aiding others. During WWII this included our country, entering the US Coast Guard at age 21 and serving until the end of the war. She was a true patriot. A life member of the American Legion Post 274 in Lusby, MD, she also became a charter Member of the Women’s Memorial at Arlington National Cemetery. After the war, Anne worked in the Food Service Industry for GSI, from which she retired as a manager after 31 ½ years. Actively involved in many different organizations, Anne especially enjoyed boating and being on or around the water. She was a life member and the first female Commodore of the Lord Calvert Yacht Club in Solomons, MD where she docked her boats. She was also a life member of the Life Saving Station Museum in Ocean City, MD, and the Calvert Marine Museum in Solomons, MD. Anne was proud of her heritage, joining the Kent Island Heritage Society in Stevensville, MD as a lifetime member. She was likewise a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, General Perry Benson Chapter, the Society of the Ark and Dove, and a member of the National Society of Colonial Dames 17th Century, John Waler Chapter. One of the most civic minded individuals you’d ever meet, Anne also served her community directly: for 16 years she was a Forest Heights Elected Council Member, a Chairperson, and was active on many committees and projects. Friends and relatives of the heart are invited to Anne's Life Celebration on Tuesday, November 18 from 2 to 4pm, and 6 to 8pm at the GEORGE P. KALAS FUNERAL HOME, P.A., 6160 Oxon Hill Rd., Oxon Hill, MD. Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, November 19, 2014 at 10am at Christ Church Parish, Kent Island, 830 Romancoke Rd., Stevensville, MD 21666. Interment at Stevensville Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Halquist Memorial Inpatient Center, 4715 North 15th Street Arlington, VA 22205.
