t is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Antal “Tony” Sarkady, who departed this life peacefully on June 10, 2025, in Annapolis, MD. Born on September 6, 1937, in Budapest, Hungary, Tony was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Tony immigrated to the US in 1956 after he participated in the Hungarian revolution at the age of 18. He graduated from the University of New Hampshire with a PhD in Electrical Engineering in 1975. Dr. Sarkady dedicated his life to education. He began his teaching career at Virginia Tech in 1976 before moving to Annapolis. He was a highly respected professor of Electrical Engineering at the United States Naval Academy for 37 years.
Tony enjoyed spending time with his family, playing tennis and golf, and traveling with his wife, Barbara. He was known for his infectious smile and intelligent sense of humor. He enjoyed reading books and staying current in his professional field. Tony had a strong passion for teaching all he interacted with, but most fondly, his Mids at the USNA. He developed many personal relationships with his former students and colleagues. Tony and Barbasenseld are often found dining and socializing at the USNA Officers’ Club and many of the local Annapolis restaurants.
Tonteaching, being an American citizen and dedicated his life and career to serving the US Navy through education and highly technical research.
Tony is survived by his wife, Barbara; his children, Lynne and Ken, and his 4 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. He will be laid to rest in the USNA Columbarium at Hospital Point.
There will be an Open House Celebration of life on November 9 from 1:00-3:00 at East Port Yacht Club in Annapolis, Maryland. Remembrance speeches will start at 2:00.
