A

nthon (Toney) Allred, Sr. Anthon Venioy Allred, Sr. Lt. Col. USA Ret. 7-year resident of Heritage Harbour in Annapolis, MD and former 37-year resident of Severna Park, MD died on June 26, 2008 from complications of Parkinson's Disease, after a long illness at Heritage Harbour Health & Rehabilitation Center in Annapolis, MD. Lt. Col. Allred was born April 9, 1924 in Orangeville, Utah. Toney graduated from the University of Utah. He also studied at Towson State University and the Chicago Institute of Fine Arts. During WWII he served in the Marine Corps in the Pacific Theater. In 1949, he was recalled to active duty as an infantry officer with the United States Army. He served at the Army Language School in Monterey, California; was an ROTC Instructor at Knox College in Galesburg, Illinois, and had staff and infantry assignments at 1 st Army Headquarters at Fort Meade, Germany and Korea. Awards included a United Nations Service Medal, Korean Service Medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal, Army Commendation Medal, and National Defense Service Medal. After military retirement in 1967, he worked as a Supervisory Education Specialist at Fort Meade, Maryland for 17 years. Toney was a member of Pascal and O'Malley Senior Centers where he enjoyed billiards. He was also a member of the Retired Officers Association, Association of the U.S. Army, Military Officers Assoc. of America, D.A.Y, V.F.W., American Legion and the Anne Arundel County Parkinson's Support Group. An accomplished craftsman, he created many paintings, stained glass pieces as well as woodcarving and pottery. He was an avid gardener, card player and a devoted grandfather. Surviving is his wife of 55 years, Elizabeth (Betty) Schwalier Allred, and their three children, Tony Allred and Nancy Allred-Davis of Pasadena and Heidi Reilley, husband Michael and their four grandchildren of Woodstown, NJ. Toney is also survived by a brother William Russell Allred of Sandy, Utah and a sister Louise Shurtliff of Mt. Pleasant, Michigan. Another brother Aaron Dean Allred predeceased him. Cremation is to follow brain donation to Parkinson's Disease and Research Center, Johns Hopkins Medical Institute. A memorial service will be held at Arlington National Cemetery on Thursday, July 31, 2008 at 10:00 A.M.
