nthony “Tony” Castaldo, 86, of Heritage Harbour in Annapolis, died peacefully on Friday August 20, 2010 at Crofton Care and Rehabilitation Center.
Tony was born on June 13, 1924, in Weirton, West Virginia, to the late Carmela and Patsy Castaldo. After high school graduation he served in the U.S. Army during WWII. Tony attended West Virginia University where in 1951 he received his degree in Political Science.
On September 10, 1952, he married Bess DeFilippis in Weirton, West Virginia, and they made their home in Northern Virginia. He worked for the Government Printing Office as a Contract Officer and retired after 30 years of service.
His family wrote: “Tony was a sports lover, and most notably, an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan. He was a gentle and kind man; a devoted husband, father, grandfather and uncle; and was loved by all who knew him. He will be forever in our hearts.”
Tony is survived by his wife of 57 years, Bess; his children, Patti Schneider, Mark Castaldo, and Joellen Raymond; sons in law, Eddy Schneider and Bob Raymond; daughter in law, Vicki Castaldo, and his granddaughters Nicole and Courtney Schneider. He was preceded in death by his brother, Joseph Castaldo, and sister, Mary Perry.
Family and friends are invited to Tony’s Life Celebration on Thursday, August 26, from 2:00:-4:00 pm and 6:00-8:00 pm at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Rd., Edgewater, MD 21037. A Memorial Mass will be offered on Friday, August 27, at 9:00 am at St. John Neumann Catholic Church, 620 Bestgate Rd.
