nthony Arrobas Da Silva Anthony A. “Tony†Da Silva, 87, a 19-year resident of Annapolis and previously of Wheaton, Md., died on Saturday, November 21, 2009, at Mandrin Chesapeake Hospice House. Born on March 6, 1922, in New Bedford, Mass., to the late Antone and Emelia Sylvia, he enlisted in 1942 in the US Navy and served in the Pacific Theatre in World War II. Following eight years of active duty, he began a career as an employee of the federal government. During this time he joined the Navy Reserves, in which he served until 1982. A music lover and jazz aficionado, he formed the Buddy Gale Orchestra and served as bandleader and saxophonist for 24 years. He was also a member of the Fleet Reserve Club in Annapolis and a parishioner of St. Mary's Parish. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Yvette F. Da Silva of Annapolis; his sons, Dennis A.A. Da Silva of Frederick, Md., and Stephen W. Sylvia and wife Nancy of Orange, Va.; his daughters, Lisa F. Da Silva of Springfield, Va., and Diane Yvette Da Silva of Annapolis, Md.; his granddaughter, Georgia R. Cotter of Springfield, Va.; his brother, William Sylvia of West Palm Beach, Fla., and his sister, Flora Senna of Mattapoisett, Mass. Friends are invited to a Life Celebration on Tuesday, December 1, 2009, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Rd., Edgewater, Md. A memorial mass will be held on Wednesday, December 2, 2009, at 9:00 a.m. at St. John Neumann Catholic Church, 620 Bestgate Rd., Annapolis, Md.
