pril Lashon Chaney Butler was born on April 3, 1967 to the late William Hawkins and Linda Christine Ray. April was the middle child of Linda’s three children; her siblings are Linda Christine Ray Goldring and Tessa Chaney Lamb. She has a daughter, Rasberri Y’vette Chaney Butler and a fiancé’, Jeffrey Donnell Johnson. April attended public schools in Maryland and Washington, DC. She attended Oxon Hill Senior High for two years and Ballou Senior High for her last two years ultimately receiving her high school diploma from there in the summer of 1985. April received a scholarship in volleyball from Wilbur Force University in Ohio. She worked at several interesting jobs such at Swankin and Turner, a Washington DC law firm and St. Elizabeth Hospital. Her most enjoyable job was being a mother. April loved to have a good time and be around family and friends. She would give herself birthday parties every year, several times with her late Aunt Marlene and Uncle Marvin whose birthdays were one day before hers. She loved to play cards, give bus trips, serve as the neighborhood candy lady, sale dinners, and watch professional football. She loved the Dallas Cowboys. She also loved music and to sing. Some of her favorite artists include the Whispers, Temptations, Pattie Labelle, Gladys Knight and Barbara Streisand. She belonged to serval singing groups: Gloria Brown and Band, Just Us Band and Show (her own band) and as a special guest with the Chain of Time. April leaves to cherish her memory: her Mother, Linda Christine Ray and her Daughter Rasberri Y’vette Chaney Butler and a host of devoted relatives : Sisters; Tessa Chaney Lamb and Linda Christine Goldring; Brother-in-laws; Ralph Lamb; Joseph Goldring; Nieces; Tyianne Thomas and Latrice Allen; Aunts and Uncles; Alice Theresa Kinsey (Jonathan); Marlene Chaney; and Madeline Cunningham; Joseph Leon Chaney (Cherrie); Marvin Chaney (the late Dee); Lawrence Chaney (Sheila) and Steven Winters (Towandra). April is also survived by numerous cousins. Please follow state and local guidelines for the COVID-19 Pandemic.
