rlene “Meme” Elizabeth Belt, 43-year resident of Mayo died on July 17, 2011 at her residence surrounded by her family after a lengthy fight with cancer.
Born August 27, 1938 in Frostburg, MD, Arlene was a 1956 graduate of Beall High School in Frostburg, MD. She worked for the Park and Planning Commission in Silver Spring. She then devoted her time to being a fulltime mother, grandmother and sister. After her children were full grown, Arlene went back to work at Mayo Elementary School. She was a member of the Elks Lodge and Moose Lodge, both in Deale, MD. Arlene loved spending time with her family and watching Redskins games.
She was predeceased by her husband of 43 years, Robert Belt, Sr. in 2005.
Arlene is survived by two sons, Robert “Bobby” Belt, Jr. and William “Billy” F. Belt, both of Mayo; one daughter, Stacey Coyle of Davidsonville; one step-daughter, Donna Griffith of Mayo; two sisters, Francie Tatum of Birmingham, AL and Sharon Edwards of Mayo; seven grandchildren, Chad Griffith, Randy, Austin and Nathan Belt, Brittany and Brooke Coyle and Katie Murphy; also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends are invited to Arlene’s Life Celebration at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Road, Edgewater on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, July 21 at 11am at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, 515 Loch Haven Road, Edgewater. Interment Lakemont Memorial Gardens.
