Arlene S. Lawson - Obituary

rlene S. Lawson, 78, a 13-year resident of Edgewater and previously of Upper Marlboro, MD, passed away on March 15, 2023 at the Anne Arundel Medical Center. Born on February 10, 1945 in Washington, DC to the late Sidney Sowers and Ruth Sowers Gidcumb, Arlene graduated in 1963 from Anacostia High School and attended the former Strayer College in Washington, DC. Arlene went to work for the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. She finished a rewarding 42-year career in 2004, retiring as a Training Specialist with the Federal Emergency Management Agency in Washington, DC. Arlene was an avid animal lover with a particular fondness for Basset Hounds and Parrots. She loved gardening, bird watching, the ocean and especially spending time with her friends, many of whom have been lifelong. Arlene is survived by her only child and devoted daughter, Lynn Lawson Welch of Edgewater. Friends are invited to celebrate Arlene’s life with her daughter on Thursday, March 23 from 1PM until Arlene’s memorial service at 2PM at the Kalas Funeral Home & Crematory, 2973 Solomons Island Road, Edgewater.
