rmand John Desmarais “Des”, age 87 a resident of Camp Springs, MD since 1964, died on Saturday, February 16, 2013 at Anne Arundel Medical Center in Annapolis, MD due to complications associated with Alzheimer’s disease. Born on December 22, 1925 in Warren, RI to the late Armand A. and Marion Pietrowska Desmarais, Des earned his B.S. Degree from Texas A&M University in 1959 and his Masters in Meteorology from the University of Utah in 1964. He retired as a Major from the U.S. Air Force in 1971 and worked at the U.S. Department of Commerce, the National Weather Service (NWS) and the National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Association (NOAA) until he retired in 1991. Des enjoyed golfing, fishing, playing solitaire and bridge.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Regina Lucy (Perrotti) Desmarais on November 3, 1999. They were married on December 27, 1948. He is survived by four daughters, Gail M. Masiello of Bowie, MD, Patricia A. Cellini of Odenton, MD, Joan E. (Jeff) Hinkle of Nazareth, PA and Joyce M. Rulapaugh of California, MD; Two brothers, Norman L. Desmarais of Mendon, MA and John R. Desmarais of Uxbridge, MA; two sisters, Margaret C. Johnson of Upton, MA and Betty Ann Morrissey of Whitinsville, MA and three grandsons, Christopher J. Masiello, Alexander M. Bendit and Nicolas A. Hinkle.
Friends are invited to Des’ Life Celebration at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Rd., Edgewater, MD on Saturday, February 23 from 2:00 to 5:00pm with prayers at 4:30pm. Interment with full Military Honors will be at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date. Contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association in his memory.
