bituary Arthur Corey Cook was born December 20, 1956 in Tallulah, Louisiana. His parents were Mary Alice Cook and Arthur William Cook. Shortly after his birth the family moved to Las Vegas, Nevada. His father having been enlisted in the Armed Forces was then stationed at Andrews Air Force Base in Camp Springs, Maryland, which moved the family to Washington, DC where Arthur resided most of his life. He attended Moten Elementary School, Johnson Jr. High and graduated from Anacostia High School in 1974. As a young child, Arthur was smart and had a very outgoing personality. In the late 60s, these qualities landed him a position on a popular Black TV show called Harambee where he would present monthly book reviews. In addition to these appearances, in 1970 Arthur was asked to recite the Declaration of Independence “by memory” during the Fourth of July ceremony at the Washington Monument (according to him he could still recite it by memory). Arthur started his first full-time job as a landscaper at Arlington Cemetery in April 1980 where he worked for several years. He left Arlington cemetery, to begin a career in the field of auto mechanics working at Exxon, R & R Automotives and PepBoys. Arthur had a very competitive spirit (which he definitely passed onto his children). He loved fixing things, especially cars and doing home improvements. He enjoyed playing cards, bowling, golfing, fishing, horseshoes and watching football. Arthur was an extremely devoted Cowboy fan. In addition, one of his passions was music. He loved being a DJ and his nickname was “Master Mixer". He would have the whole neighborhood jamming to his music! He was a jack of all trades and a master of most. In 1979 he married Brenda Cook and to their union four children were born. He was a loving and caring farther. He would always say to his children "I taught you everything you know and not everything I know". He was an excellent provider. When you saw Arthur you saw his four children. He was a whiz at Math and "THOUGHT" he could speak 10 languages. Arthur professed that he could do any and everything including the invention of cookies and cream ice-cream. He leaves to survive him, Brenda Cook, his sister Jerrilyn Jones (Gregory Jones-brother-n-law) four children Kifri Edwards (Seigbert Edwards-son-in-law) Korie Cook (Kenneth Baylor-son-in-law) Krystal Cook and Keith Cook; two nieces Jaharee Clowe (Torrie Clowe-nephew) and Danyell Ball; three uncles Fred Minor, John McKinney and John Davis and a host of extended family and friends. His legacy will live on. Relatives and friends are invited to Arthur's Life Celebration at the GEORGE P. KALAS FUNERAL HOME, 6160 Oxon Hill Rd., Oxon Hill, MD on Saturday, April 2, 2011 from 10am until time of services at 11am(Note Corrected Time). Interment private.
