Arthur Lee Haislip - Obituary

rthur Lee Haislip, 84, a 23-year resident of Harwood, MD, and previously of Annapolis, MD, died on Thursday, April 6, 2023, at Anne Arundel Medical Center. Born in Washington, DC on July 17, 1938, to the late Arthur Haislip and Bessie Wood, he was affectionately referred to as "Big Lee". Lee graduated from St. Teresa's and Mackin High School and attended Strayer University. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army as a specialist fourth class. Much of his Army days were spent in Japan, where he realized his love of travel. Lee found his calling and worked through retirement with Goddard Space Flight Center and various defense contractors supporting NASA. He enjoyed so much of life and was always moving. His favorites are hard to list, but some include gardening, gambling, cooking, and sports. Always a jokester, he was the first to make you laugh with a joke or funny impression. I’m sure we can all think of one. In addition to his parents, Lee was preceded in death by his loving wife of 39 years, Lorraine A. Haislip. He is survived by four children, Arthur L. Haislip of Shady Side, MD, Megan (Butch) Haislip-Jarrett of Harwood, MD, Brandon (Melissa) Wheeler of Harwood, MD, and Kristin (Steve) Willsey of Harwood, MD; a sister, Barbara Bussler of Edgewater, MD; and five grandchildren, Bridget Jarrett, Layne and Kaylee Willsey, and Jordan and Logan Wheeler. Relatives and friends are invited to celebrate Lee's life on Thursday, April 13 from 3 pm until his funeral service begins at 5 pm at the Kalas Funeral Home & Crematory, 2973 Solomons Island Rd., Edgewater, MD.
