A

rthur Albert Marshall, Jr. “Bud”, 80, a 10-year resident of Annapolis and formerly of Upper Marlboro, died on January 13, 2011. Bud was born on October 10, 1930 in New York, NY to Arthur and Virginia Marshall. A Korean War hero, Bud served as a 1st Lieutenant in the U.S. Army and was awarded the Purple Heart for wounds received at the Battle of Pork Chop Hill. He was portrayed by Martin Landau in the 1959 film Pork Chop Hill. After graduating from Rutgers University and Georgetown University Law School, Bud served as the Prince George’s County State’s Attorney from 1963 to 1984. He was selected as the National District Attorneys Association’s “Prosecutor of the Year” in 1975 following his prosecution of Arthur Bremer who shot presidential candidate, George Wallace, at a Laurel, MD shopping center. Bud personally prosecuted every criminal accused of murdering a Prince George’s County police officer, including Terrence Johnson, who killed two officers inside the Hyattsville Police Station in 1978. Bud also founded the Lanham Bowie Democratic Club, the first racially integrated political organization in Prince George’s County. Bud is predeceased by his first wife, Elinor G. Marshall, who died in 1968. He is survived by his wife, Sally D. Marshall whom he married in 1969; three sons, Arthur Albert Marshall, III of Baltimore, Michael Zimnick of Tempe, AZ and James Marshall of Accokeek; four daughters, Patricia Marshall of Annapolis, Laura (Wayne) Lapin of Arlington, VA, Stacy Z. Smith of Lusby and Jeanne (John) Luther of Raleigh, NC; one sister, Virginia Zabriskie of New York, NY; and six grandchildren, Benjamin, J. Marshall and Sally Luther of Raleigh, NC, Shealynn and Macy Zimnick of Tempe, AZ and Lillie Marshall of Annapolis. Friends are invited to Bud’s Life Celebration on Monday, January 17, from 2 to 4 p.m.and 6 to 8 p.m. at the GEORGE P. KALAS FUNERAL HOME, 2973 Solomons Island Road, Edgewater, MD. Services will be held on Tuesday, May 10 at 11:00am at Ft. Myer Chapel. Interment Arlington National Cemetery.
