A

shley Janice Bennett, 57, from Annapolis, Maryland, passed peacefully on May 4, 2022 after an extended battle with appendix cancer. She was born Janice Marin O’Connor on October 13, 1964 in Lakeland, Florida to Sachiko Takei and Grover Lee O’Connor, both deceased. The family then moved to Takoma Park, MD where she grew up with her sister, Martha, and six cousins as a family unit. Ashley married the love of her life, Skip Bennett, on December 5, 2006 while in Paris, France. Their wedding was a dream come true for Ashley that included a masquerade ball. Ashley spent her youth surrounded by family spending time at church and having family gatherings for birthdays and holidays at various parks, museums and attractions in the Washington, DC area. Ashley attended college in Ft Lauderdale, FL for several years before returning to Maryland. She was employed by NIH in Bethesda, Maryland for 12 years. After meeting Skip and then becoming Office Manager at South River Marina, Ashley was devoted to her job. Her commitment to making sure everything and everyone was taken care of the best way possible became her mission. Her drive and dedication to the business was unmatched. Ashley was a loving, devoted wife, a strong, elegant, delicate, cheerful, patient, persistent, detail oriented perfectionist and she was a loving, kind, stylish, graceful woman who will be remembered with love for her devotion, grace, dignity and beauty. Ashley is survived by her loving husband Walter L. (Skip) Bennett IV, her sister Martha Lee O’Connor, her step-son Zachary T. Bennett, and many cousins, aunts, and uncles. Visitation is scheduled for Wednesday, May 11, from 4 – 8 pm at Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Road, Edgewater, MD 21037. Funeral Service will be held at Heritage Baptist Church, 1740 Forest Drive, Annapolis, MD, on Thursday, May 12 at 10 AM, followed by interment at Lakemont Memorial Gardens, 900 West Central Avenue, Davidsonville, MD. Please join the family following the interment as they celebrate Ashley’s life at Harvest Thyme, 1251 West Central Avenue, Davidsonville, from 12:00 to 3:00 pm.
