Audrey Brooks - Obituary

udrey Mae Brooks, 89, a 9-year resident of Quarryville, PA and previously of the Sylvan Shores Community in Riva, MD died on December 22, 2009 at the Fairmount Homes Retirement Community in Ephrata, PA of Dementia after a 6 year illness. Born August 2, 1920 in Raleigh, NC, to the late Charles and Ida Thornton Moore. She was employed by the Maryland Department of Legislative Services as a Legislative Information Specialist IV, retiring in July of 1982. She was a member of the Faith Reformed Presbyterian Church in Quarryville, PA and the 1st Baptist Church of Edgewater in Edgewater, MD. She was the beloved wife of Benjamin D. Brooks, whom she married on March 30, 1940 and who died on December 19, 2000; devoted mother of Barbara J. Green of Quarryville, PA, Patricia L. Young of Niceville, FL and the late Linda L. McCumber; sister of Joseph Moore of Boiling Springs Lake, NC, Evelyn Schwallenberg of Roanoke, VA and Charles Moore of Watsontown, PA; also survived by 8 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-granchildren. Friends are invited to Audrey's Life Celebration at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Road, Edgewater, MD on Monday, December 28, 2009 from 12pm until time of service begins at 1pm. Interment Hillcrest Memorial Cemetery.
