ugust “Gus” Aranas Blancaflor, 83, of Fort Washington, MD passed away on February 10, 2018. Born on August 12, 1934 to the late Teodoro Blancaflor and Jovita Aranas in Tanza, Cavite, Philippines.
August retired from the United States Navy after 24 years of dutiful service. He was a Parishioner of the St. Columba Catholic Church in Oxon Hill, MD since 1979. Past member of the Knights of Columbus. Past President of the Filipino Ministry of St. Columba Catholic Church. Former Head Servant of the Spirit of the Living God Charismatic Group. He was a lifetime devotee to Our Mother of Perpetual Help and many other Catholic religious activities. Past President of the Fleet Reserve Association. Past President of CIPAA – Combined International Philippine American Association.
Gus was fond of ballroom dancing. He was known for his “Mario Lanza” ballad voice. He enjoyed reciting nostalgic and patriotic poetry in his native tongue of Tagalog. He was also a Bingo fanatic for many years. He delighted in telling humorous jokes.
August is survived by his Wife, Corazon. Children, Cristina, Audie, Cynthia, Daughter-in-law, Melissa and one Grandchild, Bianca. Four sisters, Carmencita, Felicitas, Consolacion, Norma, Brother-in-law, Harvey and numerous nieces and nephews.
A viewing will take place on Friday, March 2, 2018 from 2-4 pm & 6-9 pm at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home, P.A. 6160 Oxon Hill Road, Oxon Hill, MD 20745. A Mass of Christian Burial will be on Saturday, March 3, 2018 at 11 am at St. Columba Catholic Church.7800 Livingston Road, Oxon Hill, MD 20745. Interment will be at Arlington National Cemetery on Wednesday, March 7, 2018 at 10 am.
