Aurelia Veleź Reyes - Obituary

urelia Veleź Reyes, "Maya", a resident of West Friendship, MD for over 20 years and previously of Vega Alta, PR, died at her home on November 1, 2022, at the age of 99. Born February 12, 1923, in Vega Alta, PR, she worked as a hostess at multiple high-end restaurants in the Washington, DC area. Maya enjoyed playing slot machines and the lottery. She also enjoyed surrounding herself with her family and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Alferdo Reyes. Maya is survived by three children, Pete and Charlie Reyes of Linthicum Heights, MD, and Margie Char of West Friendship, MD; five grandchildren, Kenny, Kim, Alec, Julie, and Jenny; eight great-grandchildren; and her sister, Carmen Veleź (106 years young). Friends are invited to celebrate Maya’s life on Thursday, November 10 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm at the Kalas Funeral Home & Crematory, 2973 Solomons Island Rd., Edgewater, MD where a funeral service will be held on Friday, November 11 at 12:30 pm.
