Barbara A. Deitzer - Obituary

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, aunt, godmother, and friend, Barbara Ann Davidson Deitzer, who passed away on February 27th 2024 at the age of eighty-four. Barbara was born on August 16th 1939, in Barton, NY to John Rodney and Sara Grace Davidson. She grew up in Waverly, NY and later moved to Binghamton, NY where she met her late husband of fifty years, Gerald Francis Deitzer. She was a wonderful mother to her son, Garth Christian Deitzer and adored her two grandchildren, Grace and Freddy. Barbara lived an admirable life and was a woman of many talents. She was a stellar student and graduated from high school at the age of 16. She made dinner every night and worked hard to make a great home while also earning two master's degrees. She enjoyed reading books and solving crossword puzzles in her free time. Barbara epitomized social grace. She was tough, smart, shrewd, fearless, and stood up for what she believed in. She was preceded in death by her husband Gerald Deitzer, brothers John Edward Davidson, Charles Wayne Davidson, James Keith Davidson, and sister Rita Davidson Cole. Barbara is survived by her son Garth Deitzer, and grandchildren Grace Margaret Deitzer and Frederick Gerald Deitzer. All are encouraged to attend a memorial gathering that will be held at the Kalas Funeral Home and Crematory, 2973 Solomons Island Road, Edgewater, MD from 3-5 pm on Friday, March 8th 2024, with a reception to follow at Glory Days Grille, 3 Lee Airpark Drive, Edgewater from 5-9 pm. Flowers are welcomed and non-funeral themed arrangements will be sent after the memorial gathering to Brightview South River, where Barbara lived. In lieu of flowers, donations to Hospice of the Chesapeake in memory of Barbara Deitzer will gladly be accepted. Mom, grandma, Aunt Barb, Barb; you will forever be in our hearts and memories.
