arbara Grady was born on September 9, 1939 in Boston and died April 13 after a nine year battle with stage IV breast cancer.
Barbara attended school in Watertown and Newton, MA. She graduated from Framingham State College with a BS in education. In June 1965 she married her high school sweetheart Frederic J. Grady. With her husband’s frequent transfers in the Coast Guard, Barbara had the opportunity to work in a number of school systems. She taught grades 1-6 in Massachusetts, Los Angeles, Oklahoma City and Jacksonville, FL.
She is survived by her husband Capt Grady USCG (ret) of Arnold and her two daughters, both of Stevensville, Marilyn (John)DeYoung and Katherine Grady and her husband Greg Jensen. She had two grandchildren Heather and Michael DeYoung. She is survived by three sisters, Judy (Joseph) Kearns of Southborough, MA, Ursula (William) Pearce of Surfside Beach, SC, Susanna (Charles) Einolf of Mitchellville.
Barbara enjoyed swimming, dancing, gardening, making porcelain dolls and playing the Bodhran, an Irish drum. She was treasurer of the Fleet Reserve Gardeners Club. Many of her May Day baskets received awards from the Garden Club of Annapolis.
A memorial gathering will be held on Thursday, April 17 from 3pm to 5pm and 7pm to 9pm at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Road, Edgewater where a memorial service will be held on Friday, April 18 at 10am. Inurnment will follow in MD Veterans Cemetery, Crownsville.
