arbara Johnson Kasler passed away peacefully on May 24, 2016. She was a loving mother, grandmother, teacher, artist, community and church volunteer. Her selfless efforts, creativity and generosity touched the lives of generations of students and citizens in the Charlotte area. Born in Detroit, MI, Barbara was a graduate of Queen’s College and earned a Master’s Degree in Education from Wayne State University. She was an Elder with the Presbyterian Church and was a retired art instructor. During her career, she taught at Central Piedmont Community College, Winthrop University, Sacred Heart College and AG. Barbara’s passion was to inspire students with traditional values, quality work and a sense of community. She was a single parent, worked hard, overcame significant adversity and was one of the first in her family to earn a college degree. Barbara is survived by Kimberly Kasler Guilfoyle, Kurt (Laura) Kasler, Taylor Kasler, Forrest Kasler, Betty Foltz and JoAnn Lance. Declining health precipitated a move to Maryland to be near family. No public service is planned.
