I

t is with great sadness that the family of Barbara Ann Stokes announces her passing on September 2, 2023 at the age of 87. A longtime resident of Eastport, Barbara spent the last five years in the loving care of Brightview South River. Born in Annapolis on April 6, 1936 she was raised by her mother and step-father Estella and Reuben Roland. Barbara married Cosby M. Stokes Jr. and was a loving, devoted wife and stay at home mother to their five children. After raising her children, she entered the work force as a medical receptionist and eventually to a long career at the USNA Midshipmen Store. She was a faithful member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church. In her spare time she enjoyed walking, reading and doing crossword puzzles. In addition to her parents, Barbara was preceded in death by her husband, Cosby M. Stokes, Jr. and brother, George Wilson Ford, Jr. She is survived by her children, Cosby M. Stokes, III (wife Leesa) of Centreville, David L. Stokes, Sr. (wife Joanne) of Dunkirk, Michael L. Stokes of Greensboro, Tammy A. Arellano (husband Robert) of Edgewater and Terri L. Brenneman (husband Todd) of Yakima, WA; her grandchildren, Dianna L. Delamarter, David L. Stokes, Jr., Jessica L. Wicker, Rebecca A. Womack, Amanda B. Hoxter, Nicole L. Stokes, Maria C. Arellano, Tiffany A. Brenneman and Thomas R. Brenneman; and five great grandchildren. Relatives and friends are invited to Barbara’s life celebration on Thursday, September 7 from 6-8 PM at Kalas Funeral Home and Crematory, 2973 Solomons Island Road, Edgewater. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Friday, September 8 at 11 AM at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church, 101 Owensville Road, West River. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Barbara’s memory may be made to Hospice of the Chesapeake, 90 Ritchie Highway, Pasadena, MD 21122.
