Barbara Jean Tippett - Obituary

arbara J. “Jean” Tippett, age 90, a 25 year resident of Edgewater and previously of Montgomery County, died August 23, 2022 in Annapolis surrounded by her loving children. She was born in Washington, DC on July 21, 1932 to Joseph and Esther Brown. She grew up in Washington and graduated from McKinley Tech High School. Jean was a longtime member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Edgewater, where she was one of the original founders of the church’s fall festival. She loved her friends and family deeply. She was a talented artisan and decoupage artist and loved the beach, sweets, and traveling especially on cruises. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph L. Tippett, Jr, who died in 2009; her son, Gerard “Jerry” Keith Tippett; her daughter, Mary Joyce “Joy” Gerkens; and a grandson, Keith Tippett. Jean is survived by her children, Joseph L. “Jay” Tippett, III of Potomac Falls, Va, Jody Franklin of Lewes, DE, and Janice Tippett of Edgewater, MD; along with nine grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. Family and friends are invited to Jean’s life celebration on Monday, August 29 from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at Kalas Funeral Home and Crematory, 2973 Solomons Island Road, Edgewater. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Tuesday, August 30 at 12 noon at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, 515 Loch Haven Road, Edgewater. Interment will follow in Lakemont Memorial Gardens in Davidsonville. Following the interment there will be a reception at the home of Janice Tippett; 610 Overhill Drive, in Edgewater to celebrate the life of Barbara Jean.
