Basil Etherton Moore - Obituary

asil Etherton Moore Jr., 93, a 35-year resident of Severna Park, MD, passed away on May 6, 2018. Born on January 6, 1925 to the late Audrey and Basil Moore Sr., Basil grew up and spent most of his life in the Annapolis area. He graduated from Annapolis High School in 1942 and attended St. John’s College before entering the U.S. Army in 1943. He participated in the Normandy Invasion and was awarded the Bronze Star Medal. After the war, Basil returned to his studies and earned his Bachelor’s and Law degrees from the University of Maryland. He was admitted to the Maryland Bar in 1951. Basil married his wife, the former Peggy Tabor, that same year. He began his career as a labor relations attorney in the mid-west before moving to Severna Park in 1970 where he became a prominent Annapolis attorney. Basil continued working until he was 80 when he suffered a debilitating stroke. He was active in many charitable organizations, including the Civitans and Salvation Army, and was a long-time member of the Annapolitan Club. He also served as President of the Anne Arundel Bar Association in 1981. Basil was preceded in death by his loving wife of 41 years, Peggy T. Moore who passed away in 1992. He is survived by his son, Randolph T. (Christine) Moore of Pittsburgh, PA; his daughter, Cynthia Moore (Barry) Andrews of Severna Park; three grandchildren, Christina Andrews (Reid) Shaklee, Adam Andrews and Gabrielle Norton-Moore; and two great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held for Basil at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 17 at St. Paul’s Anglican Chapel, 1505 Crownsville Road, Crownsville, MD. Burial will be private.
