ennie Eugene Walton, Jr. was born on February 17, 1933, in Danville, Virginia. He was the only child born to the late Bennie and Ruth Walton. He received his early education in the Danville Public School System and moved to Washington, DC where he attended and graduated from Francis Junior High School. He was in the first class to graduate in 1951 from Cardozo High School which was formerly Central High School. In 1951, he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps receiving his basic training at Paris Island, South Carolina and was later assigned to serve in the First Marine Division in the Korean War. Upon leaving the Marine Corps in 1957, he returned to Washington, DC and was employed by the U.S. Postal Service as a letter carrier. During that time, he also owned his own cab and operated with the Capitol Cab Company. He left the U.S. Postal Service and was employed by D.C. Transit as a bus driver. He became interested in real estate and in 1981 he received his realtor’s license. He began working for Schick and Pepe Realtors and received Top Salesman award and became manager of the branch. He soon opened his own real estate company named B E Walton Real Estate which he operated for several years. In 1989, he retired from real estate and returned to his first love, transportation. He started BEW Transportation and through the years he grew the company from one vehicle to a substantial fleet of vehicles to meet the needs of his growing clientele. Through his efforts with BEW Transportation, he was the recipient of the Best of Washington and the Limousine Service Award consecutively from 2009 through 2014. As a result of these awards, he was placed in the services Hall of Fame. Bennie accepted Christ and was baptized at an early age and recommitted his life to Christ as an adult, joining Tenth Street Baptist church, he served as a Trustee for ten years. He served as the Chairman of the Trustee Board at New Bethany Baptist Church for eight years. Later, moving to Maryland, he joined the Mount Jezreel Baptist Church in 2018 and was a member until his passing. He was preceded in death by both his first wife Gloria Dell Moore, and his wife of 62 years Gloria Peterson Walton. He is survived by daughters Katherine, Kathleen and Gina, and sons Bartley, Barry and Bryan, along with eleven Grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends.
