B

ernardine (Leshock) Hurley, first day on Earth, July 25, 1930, first day in Heaven, February 27, 2008. Born in Hazleton, PA, daughter of the late Mary (Manyko) and Joseph Leshock. Mrs. Hurley graduated from McAdoo High School then moved to Washington, DC in 1951 where she met and married the late Leonard J. Hurley. Together they had five children, Bob (Carol) Hurley, Kathy (Alan) Konjusky, Bill&Paul Hurley, and Karen Klayman. “Deany” devoted the early years of her marriage to raising her children and when they grew older she began a second career working with special needs children at Tayac Elementary in Oxon Hill, MD and later at Hillcrest Heights Special Center from which she retired. Since her retirement, “Gramma” has lived in Deale, MD and enjoyed many happy trips with her numerous friends from the Over 50 Club, South County Seniors Club, St. John's Seniors and the Hazleton Senior Center. Folks on Rte 2 and 556 are now safe from the MeeMaw in the Volvo shutting them down and the slot machines will be just a bit easier to claim. “Bea” is survived by her sisters Virgil (Jack) Cochran and Carol Leshock, children and six grandchildren, Robert and Mark Hurley, Harry and John “Jake” Lonigan, Andrew and Leonard “Lenny” Klayman, and will be dearly missed by a host of family and friends. She was not ready to leave us and we were not ready for her to go Relatives and friends are invited to Bernardine's Life Celebration on Tuesday from 7-9pm and Wednesday from 12pm until time of service at 2pm at the GEORGE P.
