ernice Ann (Bakajza) McTigue passed away peacefully in her sleep on February 24, 2014. She is survived by her loving husband William McTigue, daughters Teresa and Michelle, son-in-law Bernard Janoss, beloved granddaughters Katherine and Caroline Janoss, numerous nieces and nephews, and many friends. She was predeceased by her parents and seven brothers and sisters. Bea was born on June 18, 1926 in Hastings, PA, into an immigrant community and coal mining family. She moved to Washington DC as a part of the post WW2 wave, where she worked for C&P Telephone for more than a decade and attended Wilson Teachers College. Bea retired from C&P after she married and moved to Oxon Hill with Bill, where they raised their children in a snug little house that was full of love. Once the girls were well into their school years, Bea went back to work as the receptionist at Capital Centre where she loved meeting a wide range of interesting and talented people from all walks of life. She was very active at St Ignatius Catholic Church, the American Legion Post 248, and in local politics in southern Prince George's County. Bea was a devoted and loving wife, mother, and grandmother, and a voracious reader from when she was four years old. She stood up for what was right and fair and took people for who they were, not what they were. She left her mark on the hearts and lives of many people.
